Abstract

Sleepers (2) for a railway track are fitted during production with studs (8) which carry securing nuts (9). Beneath the nuts are plain washers (7), spring washers (6), and insulating spacers (4,5). The latter is then lowered on to its sole-piece of resilient material (3) on top of the sleeper, and the spacer is turned through 90 deg to lie on top of the rail foot. The nut is then tightened to compress the washer-spacer assembly (4,5,6,7) and lock the rail into place. Rail location at the corrent gauge is ensured by the lower spacer portion (4). ADVANTAGE - Division of insulating spacer ensures that lower portion sets correct gauge whilst upper part can be swung aside to allow lowering of rail. Dismantling of complete assembly on site is thus avoided, and time is saved.
