Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a device for retaining the front part of a boot on a ski.
notamment un ski de fond, autorisant ie souievement d talon du skieur par flexion du pied de celui-ci.in particular a cross-country ski, which allows the skier's heel to be raised by flexing the foot thereof.
Cette position traditionneile de l'axe de rotation parallèle à ia surface du ski et perpendiculaire à son plan longitudinal de symétrie s'est impose comme semblant de toute évidence la mieux appropriée au roulement du pas du skieur de fond.nn already knows devices for retaining the front of a boot on a ski allowing the lifting of the pad, in particular for the practice of cross-country skiing, which are provided for retaining the front part of the boot against the ski and this in the zone extending from the anterior end of the boot to, approximately, the end of the metatarsals of the skier's foot, that is to say to the zone of junction between the phalanges and the metatarsals of the foot, also called metatarsophalangeal articuiation
We can cite, by way of example, the German utility model 77 23 934, and patent 2 199 153. The devices described in these patents hold the front of the shoe symmetrically, which allows the lifting of the heel by flexing the foot about an axis of rotation nerpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the ski. This traditional position of the axis of rotation parallel to the surface of the ski and perpendicular to its longitudinal plane of symmetry has imposed itself as seemingly evidently the most suitable for rolling the step of the cross-country skier.
However, with the new cross-country skiing technique known as the "skater half-step", we can see that the direction of the axis of rotation of the skier's foot is shifted substantially during the course of the skier's recovery step. , in particular when it rests on the inside of the foot to then propel itself forward.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a retaining device of the aforementioned type which is adapted so as to allow the displacement of the axis of rotation of the skier's foot, during the practice of the "half-step of the skater", which favors the use of this technique for practicing cross-country skiing.
To this end, this device for retaining the front part of a boot on a ski, in particular a cross-country ski, authorizing the lifting of the skier's heel by flexing the foot thereof around a transverse axis of rotation with respect to the longitudinal axis of the ski, is characterized in that it comprises holding means rigidly applying the front part of the sole of the boot, flat on the upper surface of the ski, in an area of retainer extending between the anterior end
of the sole and a posterior limit situated substantially under the m4tatarso-phaiangian articulation of the foot, these retaining means terminating, in cooperation with corresponding parts of the shoe, the axis of rotation of the posterior part of the shoe and in particular from the heel towards its extreme lifting position, so that at the end of the foot lifting stroke the axis of rotation extends in an oblique direction relative to the longitudinal axis of the ski, this direction oblique being substantially parallel to the axis of the meta-tarso-phalanx articulation of the foot.
The restraint device follow the invention ensures
thus a variation of 18 direction of the axis of rotation of the heel of the skier, when it is lifted with respect to the front part of the foot, from a perpendicular direction 9 the longitudinal axis of symmetry of the ski, when the foot rests flat on the ski, up to an oblique line roughly parallel to the metatarsophayphal articulation of the foot, when the heel is fully raised.

Figure 8 is a perspective view of another alternative embodiment of the retaining device according to the invention.
The device 1 for retaining the front of a boot 2 on a cross-country ski 3 which is shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, comprises a plate 4 constituting a base and which is fixed to the ski by means of screws. This base 4 carries, in its rear part, two vertical wings 5 and 6 which extend upwards, from the edges of the base plate 4 which are cantilevered with respect to the edges of the ski 3. The front part 7a of the sole 7 of the shoe is held on the base 4 of the retaining device 1 by means of an Il-shaped spring 8, open towards the rear, and of which the end parts Ba, arched d '' are suitably engaged in holes drilled respectively in the upper parts of the wings 5 and 6, in order to constitute pivot axes for the spring 8. The wing 5 is the inner wing, that is to say say that which is turned towards the other ski (not shown) while the other wing 6 is situated on the outside of the ski. The top of the spring O, that is to say its central central part, crosses a locking lever 9 which is pivotally mounted t about a horizontal and transverse axis il, on a yoke 12 pro skirting base 4 towards the front.
When the boot 2 is held on the ski 3, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the two arms Oc and Rd of the spring R which extend towards the rear are kept pressed on the face upper @b of the sole 7, on either side of the upper of the shoe 2.
A. As can be seen in FIGS. 1 and 2, the retaining device 1 is arranged so that it rigidly maintains, on the upper surface of the ski 3, the front part 7a of the sole 7 of the boot 2, from the front end or front face 7C of the sole to a posterior limit defined by the vertical plane P indicated in phantom on the finish 2. Therefore, during the practice of cross-country skiing, during the lifting of the skier's foot , the axis of rotation of the heel 13 of the skier's foot, does not remain fixed in space but moves. In other words, at the very beginning of the lifting of the heel 13, the axis of rotation is found to be perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of symmetry of the ski 3 and ii is contained approximately in a transverse plane P1 indicated in FIG. 2. As the foot is rolled up, that is to say when the heel 13 is raised, this axis of rotation gradually moves from the PI plane to the aforementioned plane P. This pian P has the particularity of passing sensibletnent through the junction zone between the phalanges and the metatarsals of the foot, zone which constitutes the metatarsophalangeal joint A represented in thick dashes in FIG. 2. Consequently, at the end of the stroke winding of the foot, that is to say when the heel 13 is raised to the maximum with respect to the ski, the axis of rotation of the skier's foot and the boot 2 is found to be parallel to the metatarsophalangeal joint. do A.
In order to obtain this inclination of the axis of rotation of the foot and of the shoe at the end of the heel lifting stroke 13, the retaining device 1 is therefore capable of defining a posterior limit of the retaining zone which is inclined with respect to the longitudinal axis of the ski, from the outside of the ski towards the inside and from the rear towards the front. This results in the fact that the rear edge 6a of the external wing 6 of the base 4 is offset towards the rear with respect to the rear edge 5a of the internal wing 5.
A.Therefore ie the rear edge 5a of the base 4. which extends between the rear edges 5a and 6a of the wings 5, (,, is iui itself inclined relative to the longitudinal axis of the ski, being substantially parallel on plane P containing the art i metatarsophalangeal A.
In the variant embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the retaining device I consists of two elements, namely a front binding 14, retaining the front end of the shoe, and a stud. rear hooking 15 fixed on the upper surface of the ski and cooperating with a corresponding part of the sole 7 of the shoe. The binding 14 is provided with a locking lever 14a pivotally mounted so as to be able to exert a traction towards the front on the shoe. Furthermore, the attachment pad 15 comprises a rear and upper edge 15a which extends cantilevered towards the rear and which engages in a groove of the same shape provided in the sole 7 of the shoe. This rear edge 15a is inciined, in a horizontal plane relative to the longitudinal axis of the ski so as to be contained in the vertical plane P passing through the metatarsophalangeal joint A of the skier's foot, or parallel and close to this. The boot is held in place on the ski, engaging forward so that the groove of its sole comes over the edge 15a of the stud 15, after which the locking lever 14a is pivoted so as to exert forward traction on the shoe and thus tightening the sole 7 strongly on the latching pad 15.
In the variant embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 5, the retaining device 1 is of the release type so as to allow the boot to be released in the event of the skier falling or of a dangerous force applied to it. of the shoe. In this case the base 4 of the retaining device 1 is rotatably mounted on the ski 3, about an axis 16 perpendicular to this ski and the front part of the base 4 is retained in the engaged position by means of a éiastiquP 17 locking device, of any known type, fixed to the ski.
Tl comprises a front stop 18 comprising a finger 19 resiliently urged towards the rear which can be pushed forward by means of an unlocking lever 2 and engaging in a hollow correspond 7d provided in the front end of the sole 7 of the shoe. te finger 19 resiliently urged therefore pushes the front part 7a of the sole in the direction of one or more rear attachment studs fixed to the ski.
Pour favoriser l'accrochage de la semelle 7 sur les plots arrière 21,22, ia face transversale postérieure 7e de ia semelle 7 et les faces d'appui antérieures 21a,22a des plots d'accrochage arrière 21,22 sont inclinées de bas en haut et d'arrière en avant. nn can see in FIG. 7 that the sole 7 of the shoe is kept pressed towards the rear by its transverse face 7e constituting the posterior limit of its front part 7a, on two separate attachment studs 21, 23 namely a stud of external hooking 21 and an internal hooking stud 22, these two studs being fixed to the ski by means of screws 23. The two hooking studs 21 and 22 are fixed to the ski so that their respective anterior faces 21a and 22a which bears on the posterior transverse face 7c of the front part 7a of the sole, or offset one with respect to the other in the longitudinal direction. More particularly, the front bearing face 21a of the external hooking pad 21 is located further rearward relative to the front bearing face 22a of the internal hooking pad 22. The bearing faces 21a and 22a advantageously have the shape of the convexity bosses rotates forward and they thus define, together, a support plane P tangent to the two bosses 21a, 22a which form the posterior limit of the retaining zone of the front part 7a of the sole 7 and which contains substantially the metatarsophaangeal articulation of the foot. To favor the attachment of the sole 7 to the rear studs 21, 22, the rear transverse face 7e of the sole 7 and the front bearing faces 21a, 22a of the rear attachment studs 21, 22 are inclined from bottom to high and back to front.
It goes without saying that in the case of a ski with an upper pian surface, the two rear hooking studs 21 and 22 could be replaced by a single and even stud, screw inclined front support face and contained in the pian
P. The use of two separate attachment studs 21 and 22 is only necessary when the retaining device according to the invention is used with a ski having a longitudinal rib for guiding and centering as shown in the figure. 8. In ia variant embodiment illustrated in Figure R the retainer J which is of the type shown in Figures 1 and 2 is mounted on a ski 3 provided with a longitudinal rib 24 for guiding and centering the shoe 2 the sole 7 of which has a corresponding longitudinal groove 25. In this case the base 4 is shaped so as to follow the shape of the guide rib 24. The front yoke 12 which extends the base 4 is fixed on the upper face of the guide rib 24 while the rear parts of the base 4 from which the wings 5 and 6 come, are fixed to the upper surface 3a of the ski 3, on either side of the rib 24.
