Abstract

Modified liber plant fibres, particularly flax, characterized by an enhanced fineness, a reduced quantity of non cellulosic materials, an at least as much ordered crystalline structure of the cellulose. They may be obtained by subjecting the fibres to a hydrolysis treatment in water vapor at high pressure during a limited period of time, followed by a sudden expansion to atmospheric pressure, and by a washing treatment.
