Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electrical connection terminal of a new type, intended to be used in particular on outdoor installations or on installations the cables of which are exposed to vibrations or to transverse forces. The problem arises, among other things, on overhead power lines, the cables of which are connected in certain places to connection straps or to grounding conductors.
Under these conditions, a connection lug is usually used, which is screwed rigidly, while the cable of which it is integral is subjected to repeated transverse bending forces, for example under the effect of wind.
A terminal of known type comprises a fixing tab (generally perforated), integral with a cylindrical skirt whose axial internal housing is caught in the stripped end of the cable. The final fixing of this skirt on the bare metal part of the cable can be carried out by any known method, generally by crimping. This procedure usually has the disadvantage of establishing a discontinuity between the free rear edge of the metal skirt, and the transverse face opposite the insulation which sheaths the cable. We note that this discontinuity has a double disadvantage. , to know
- on the one hand, rainwater infiltrates into the gap
to cause corrosion in the ser
wire rope weaving
- on the other hand, the presence of the high insulating sheath
rigidity ceasing at this point, there occurs a con
stress centration, making it appear at length
cable fatigue rupture due to alter bending
born of its metallic soul.
The object of the present invention is to avoid these drawbacks, by producing a connection lug inexpensively, which is moreover directly adaptable to existing installations, without causing modification thereof.
An electrical connection terminal according to the invention is in the form of a single piece of metal, comprising a connection lug, integral with the blind end of a cylindrical skirt provided with an internal longitudinal housing capable of coming cover the stripped end of a cable, and it is characterized in that beyond the first housing which receives the metal core of the cable, the skirt contains a second coaxial housing, which extends the first up towards the exterior, the internal diameter of this second housing being substantially equal to the external diameter of the cable insulation, which allows the skirt to cover not only the stripped end of the metal core of the cable, but also beyond, 1 insulating sheath which envelops it
Of course, the fixing in place of the terminal according to the invention can be carried out by a known method, and in particular by crimping on the stripped core of the cable, as if it were a terminal of already known type. .

Figures 5 and 6 are similar sections after crimping on the stripped end of the metal core of the cable.
The terminal 1 shown in the drawing is intended to be fitted onto an electric cable 2, the metal core 3 of which is coated with an insulating sheath 4. It is known that, for certain cables 2, in particular for grounding cables on overhead installations, the insulating sheath 4 has significant mechanical rigidity.
The terminal 2 is a single block metallic piece, comprising
- at the front, a flat tab 5, generally provided with
an opening 6, for the installation of a screw of fi
xation
- at the back, a skirt formed by the succession of two
tubular sleeves 7 and 8
The blind front end of the first sleeve 7 is connected to the tab 5. The first sleeve 7 coasts a cylindrical internal housing 9, the diameter 10 of which is substantially equal to the external diameter of the metallic core 3 which it receives.
The first tubular sleeve 7 is extended rearwards by the second nanchon 8, which has an internal housing 11, the diameter 12 of which is substantially equal to the external diameter 13 of the sheath 4
The operation is as follows
The installer begins by stripping the metallic core 3 over a length less than or equal to the axial length 14 of the first housing 9. Then, it covers the entire cable with the skirt 7, 8, of the terminal 1. In doing so, it engages the stripped part of the metallic core 3 in the housing 9, while the insulating sheath 4 fits into the housing 11, over the entire length 15 of the latter.
The fixing is carried out by any known means, for example n by crimping the first sleeve 7 on the stripped part of the metallic core 3 e This crimping can be carried out in hexagonal form (case of FIG. 5), or by deep punching a rib 16 (case of Figure 6). In all cases, it can be seen that after fixing, the terminal 1 according to the invention covers the insulating sheath 4 over the entire length 15 of the second sleeve 8, thus ensuring the continuity of the mechanical resistance of the assembly facing d possible transverse bending stresses
