Abstract

This apparatus has the purpose of propelling a boat in the direction in which the rower is facing, and not backwards, like the current principle. Two of these appliances per boat are required. By pulling on the shaft 17 of the oar, the rower (oarsman) pivots a toothed sector 10 which meshes on another sector 2, and the latter drives the blade 5 of the oar. The boat thus progresses forwards. The apparatus 1 is mounted on an articulation 13 allowing the blade 5 to be taken out of the water. Furthermore, the diameter of the sector 10 is less than the sector 2, which has the advantage of reducing the force provided by the rower. By reversing (by virtue of the identical diameters of the shafts 3) the sectors 10 and 2, the speed is increased. The system is protected against corrosion and is provided with antifriction rings 7 and 14. The elements 6 and 11 protect the sectors. This invention is intended for any person using a boat with two or more oars, either for fishing, leisure or competition.
