Description

Height corrector control device for
rear axle of automotive vehicle.

The present invention relates to a height corrector control device for a rear axle of a motor vehicle with hydraulic suspension.

Vehicles fitted with a hydraulic suspension are generally equipped with a height corrector per axle, capable of acting on the suspension cylinders to correct the height of the suspended part, which would normally vary depending on the load of the vehicle, so as to keep it approximately constant whatever the load.

A height corrector generally comprises a hydraulic drawer, the position of which is linked to the indications of a position detector, sensitive to the height of the suspended part, the position of the drawer determining the admission of a liquid under pressure into the jacks. suspension system in order to carry out the height correction. The height corrector is most often provided with means suitable for ensuring a delayed damping of the height variation and for cooperating with elastic means in order to eliminate the vibrational signals which correspond to the permanent stresses on the road, the height corrector thus intervening to correct the position of the suspended part only for long-term stresses (generally greater than 5 seconds) which correspond to a change in load in the passenger compartment affecting the whole axle.

Vehicles s u s p e n d u s as defined above have an anti-roll bar on the rear axle connecting the two arms carrying the wheels.

The torsion of this bar is opposed to the roll of the two wheels of the axle, but this torsion is always practically negligible at the midpoint. This midpoint is nevertheless subject like the whole bar to a pivoting movement when the axle changes height.

There are thus known height corrector control devices for the rear axle of a motor vehicle provided with an anti-roll torsion bar connecting the two wheel support arms, which include means for detecting the pivoting of the mid-point of the bar of the elastic means for absorbing the vibratory components of the detected angular signal, means for transmitting the continuous component of the signal, and means for transforming this continuous component into a linear signal acting on the height detector.

Getting information in the middle of the bar is a problem. It is indeed necessary that the angular position of the detector relative to the bar is fixed and cannot be modified, for example under the effect of vibrations. It is also necessary that the taking of information does not weaken the torsion bar. The detector cannot consequently be fixed on the bar, for example by a screw passing through this bar.

The present invention relates to a height corrector control device of the above type which is perfected so as to meet these conditions.

The device according to the invention is characterized in that the torsion bar comprises in the middle, a knitted allowance on which the information is taken.

La Figure 1 est une vue de face du dispositif de commande;
Figure 1.
An embodiment of the control device according to the invention has been described below, by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the appended drawing in which
Figure 1 is a front view of the control device;
Figure 2 is a sectional view along II-II of the
Figure 1.

In the drawing, there is seen a rear axle cross member 1 constituted by a tube inside which an anti-roll bar 2 is arranged.

The bar 2 has in the middle a knurled allowance 3 on which is mounted a ring 4. This includes a threaded hole in which is screwed a screw 5 engaging at its end in the knurling of the allowance 3. The crosspiece 1 is pierced with a hole 6 which allows the tightening of the bolt 5 and is closed by a plug 7.

The ring 4 is extended on one side by a cylindrical portion 4a on which can both pivot and slide a second ring 8 immobilized axially by a ring 9 itself held by a breakout 4n of the cylindrical extension 4a of the ring 4.

The ring 4 has a finger 4c parallel to its axis and directed towards the side of the extension 4a. For its part, the ring 8 is integral with a finger 8a to which it is connected by a flange 8b and which is turned towards the ring 4 and parallel to the finger 4c.

A spiral spring 10 is wound on the ring 8, and interposed between the ring 4 and the flange 8b of the ring 8. Its two
ends 10a and 10b intersect and bear respectively against the fingers 4c and 8a, with a prestressing effort of the order of 6 to 8 kg.

As can be seen more particularly in FIG. 2, the ring 8 is integral with a threaded tube 11 in which is engaged one of the ends, which is threaded, of a pin 12 whose other end 12a is spherical and constitutes the internal part of a first ball joint 13. A second ball joint 14 whose external part i5a is integral with the external part 15b of the ball joint 13, is provided so that, in the rest position, the line of the centers of the two ball joints 13 and 14 approximately coincides with the axis of the drawer 15 of a height corrector 16. The drawer 15 can move in the direction of the arrow f and is secured to a support 17 on which is fixed a pin 18, l end 18a thereof being spherical and constituting the internal part of the ball 14.

The pin 12 comes out of the cross member 1 through a hole 19 which is protected by a dust cover 20.

When the anti-roll bar is requested to vibrate and what causes the ring 4, this ring in turn causes the ex-jibe îOa or 1Ob of the spring 10; but the other end 10b or 10a of the spring only partially follows the movement and with a certain delay. Thus, the spring, in cooperation with the damper of the corrector 16 absorbs the vibratory components of the angular displacement of the midpoint of the torsion bar; drawer 15 thus receives only the continuous component of the signal and provides height correction as a function of the mean pivot angle of the midpoint of the torsion bar, that is to say as a function only of the load.

It goes without saying that the present invention should not be regarded as limited to the embodiment described and felt again, but, on the contrary, covers all the variants thereof.
