Abstract
Description
COUTEAU-GRUGEOIR A HUITRES
The present invention relates to utensils allowing the opening of oysters.
The devices known to date, allow the oyster to be opened either using a simple knife commonly known as an oyster knife which consists in groping the knife blade between the half-shells at the risk of being injured , or using an oyster forceps which consists in cutting the end of the oyster, inserting the end of the forceps there and lifting the upper shell by the end. Such a device only has the effect of mutilating the oyster by cutting off its end and a quantity of shards fall inside, which becomes unpleasant for the person wanting to drink the juice of the oyster.
The notching knife, according to the invention, makes it possible to avoid these drawbacks.
To do this, simply hold the oyster in the left hand, the heel towards the palm, using the notch made up of parts 1 and 2 articulated on an axis 3, make a slight triangular cut from 3 to 5 millimeters deep on the inner side of the oyster at the level of the tendon, introduce the end of the knife into the notch thus made, rotate the knife slightly in the oyster to allow it to be opened, push in the knife 4 and cut the tendon which releases the 2 half-shells. The oyster is open. In this way, no splinters fall inside the oyster due to the half-shell shape of element i of the gorget which collects the cut particles. Once the oyster is open, the triangular cut from 3 to 5 mm. that has been done is hardly visible.
The accompanying drawing is a sectional view of the assembled assembly with a top view of the separate elements 1 and 2 forming a notch.
As shown, the device comprises 2 elements 1 and 2 making up the notch, articulated on an axis 3 with matted ends forming a head. The end of each element 1 and 2 has the shape of a half-shell with the upper edges raised and cut at an angle of 22 degrees with the horizontal in the closed position. These half-shells are inserted one inside the other, forming shears.
A play of up to a millimeter between the upper lips of the element 1 relative to those of the element 2 is desirable to allow better articulation.
The element 1 has on the side a folded edge 4 forming a knife.
This device can also be used between the opening of various shells.
