Abstract
Description
The invention relates to, in Public Works, diluted grout based on calcium silico-aluminates intended for the treatment of soils in order to ensure a seal, a consolidation or a rem ~ blayage.
The author proposes to define the dilution by a proportion of water for mixing greater than I, 5 times the weight of dry matter which has been chemically reacted at 90 days, so as to extend the use of the term diluted ceulis to grouts loaded with inert fillers or not fully reacting.
Such grouts would settle if they were made up only of water and cement. For thirty years we have known how to stabilize them using various devices, particularly using clays, especially in bentonite form. other known possibilities of stabilization, the thixotrepic properties of these pre ~ products having nothing to do with their stabilizing properties, the thixotr @ pie is also generally not a property re ~ sought @.
I mètre cube d'eau. For information, the currently widespread censist technique @ prepare a mother slurry dosed between 35 and 50 kg of bentenite for
I cubic meter of water. 50 to 700 kg of cement are added to this slurry, depending on the desired final resistance. Optionally, a more or less inert filler is added, the pouZZolanique effect not being sought in the current state of the art. Moreover, due to the rigidity of these grouts preventing settling, the fillers do not contribute to the 'increase in final resistance only by their volume and not by transmission of intergranular forces.
These grouts peuvemt receive various adjuvants emsuite in order to modify their characteristics to the implementation.
In the absence of admixtures, these grouts have hardening times of several hours and their long-term resistance to erosion depends on the type of cement used, the extremes being obtained with the CPAs containing 95% clinker and with the CLKs containing 80% slag. The resistances obtained are approximately as follows
Re at 28 days Rc at 90 days with 100 kg of CPA 0.1 bars 0.2 bars
100 kg of CLK 2 to 3 bars 3 to 4 bars with 200 kg of CPA 1 bars 1 to 2 bars
200 Kg of CLK 7 to 9 bars 9 to 11 bars
It can be seen that the resistance of CLK-based grouts is much better than that of CPA-based grouts.
In CLK cements the C / S of closed C-S-H crystals oscillates between 1.2 and 1.3. In CPA cements the C / S of closed C-S-H crystals oscillates between 1.5 and 1.8.
It is known that the more the C / S increases, the more compact and needle-like the crystals, on the contrary the more the C / S decreases, the more the crystals are lamellar. The minimum C / S of hydrated calcium silicates is I and under some limit conditions of 0.83. Consequently, it cannot go below even if silica is added in high doses.
For a long time, the question has been raised as to why, compared to what happens with concentrated cement pastes, grouts based on CPA had a lower resistance than those based on CLK, why their impermeability was so poor. Finally, could the resistance of the Grouts to CLK be improved without increasing the cement dosage.
The author of the present invention has made the discovery of the following principle by relying on a theoretical reasoning which has been verified a posteriori on samples.
I. In cements based on clinker, the lime originating from the anhydrous tricalcium silicates seeks to bind to the existing silicates whether they are already engaged in lamellar crystals of monocalcium silicate or in the bentonite sheets, and forces these various lamellae to s' In addition, the aluminates under these conditions crystallize in compact crystals dispersed in the grout and have no effect on the resistance. The needles themselves which have crystallized in bulk can only work in bending and offer no impermeability. The best impermeability and the best resistance for a given mass of material, low with respect to the volume to be occupied, is obviously obtained by a dissemination of the material in an alveolar structure made up of sheets, which amounts to starting by not destroying the existing bentonite sheets and forcing crystallization & to take place in sheets, i.e. to obtain silicates of hydrated calcium in which there is sufficient silica to fix all the excess lime and which have a C / S of about I.
The present invention, on the contrary, consists in balancing this ratio by precipitating the excess lime with the aid of ions originating from soluble compounds, having for lime an affinity greater than that of silica, and capable of modifying not only the long-term resistance but also the short-term characteristics. This is the case of carbonate ions, phosphates, oxalates, entering into the composition of alkali salts With grouts based essentially on clinker such as OPÂ cements, the quantity of lime to be removed is so large that it requires an addition of alkali salts that is too large to be economical compared to a simple addition For this reason, the lime fixing method will mainly target grouts with a low lime excess, that is to say essentially those based on slag cooeme. This is the case of grouts made with cim ents C.L.K.
Another problem arose precisely with these & BR <slag-based grouts; their setting time is long and sometimes exceeds 24 hours without delay. This property is sometimes useful in certain applications, but there are many others where it is necessary. is rather a minus. Also there was no aecélé ~ c @ nnu hardening feedback.
Afraid to work in this direction, there was no question of adding lime since it is known that precisely in these grouts the lime harms the final resistances, and that the shape of the crystals of calcium silicates bydrated at more than importance that the quantities formed. The author therefore sought rather to cause rapid gelation by simultaneously acting on the bentonite, demt it is known that it gels to a pH of II, 5 in the presence of @alcium ions, and there is an influx of low-basic silicate which gels under similar conditions. This influx of silicate can come from about 13% of clinker contained in the CLK cements. It suffices to precipitate the lime from the clinker to release the silica.
The pH of II.5 is obtained by supplying a slight quantity of sodium ions. With a lower pH, one would gel more quickly by formation of silica gel, but on the one hand one would no longer benefit from the bontonite gel. , on the other hand we would block the hydration of the slag
Acidic soda salts like bicarbonate are excellent in this regard.Carbonate ions precipitate excess lime, only release a small amount of sodium ions by halving the basic ions. When finished, the basicity makes the ceulis very fluid, then in one to two hours the lowering of the pH and the release of silica is sufficient to cause a rapid thickening which is followed by an accelerated setting.
Optionally, the setting time can be extended by switching to a more alkaline soil such as carbonate ais the additional soda thus introduced will decrease the final resistance
Starting from the mineralogical composition of CLK cements, by balancing the acid-base type, we can determine that the excess lime is 40 to 50 kg per tonne. This quantity comes mainly, at least in French CLK cements, from I3% of clinker present at a rate of 30 to 40% of this clinker.
The lime carbonate reaction requires 60 kg of carbonate ions to fix 56 kg of Cao lime, and if the carbonate comes from baking soda it takes 84 kg, or 5 to 6% of the weight of CIL.
This quantity corresponds to the theoretical optimum but already @ 2% the effect is interesting.
Let us give a no @ limiting example of application:
Bentonite is a CVI5 from the French company SFED, composed of
59% of SiO2,2I% of Al203 + Fe203,0,5% of CaO
Cement is a CIL marketed by French companies
CIMENTS FRAHCAIS or CEDEST and composition:
82% slag, 5% gypsum, I3% clinker. The latter of composition 65% CaO, 22% SiO2,5% al203,2% Fe203, I% MgO, contains 40% of Cao in excess tooth I7 % feels strictly necessary for the crystals to be formed with the sulphate and the slag. There remains approximately 3.5% of lime depending on the weight of CLk to be fixed, which requires 5% of bicarbona ~ te of soda,
A mother slurry is prepared dosed at 35 kg of CVI5 per m3 of water to which is added 200 kg of CLK. Depending on the quantities of bicarbonate, the crushing strengths at 28 days are: 9 bars for 0%, I2 bars for 2%, I6 bars for 5%, I3 bars for 7%
The addition of 5% or 10 kg of bicarbonate allows from 7 days to exceed the resistance at 28 days without additions, and this resistance is equivalent to an additional 110 kg of CLK.
