Abstract

The device has a cable termination piece (10), made of aluminium, with its end shaped into a flat tongue (10') with a circular hole. The surface of the tongue has grooves cut either circumferentially or radially cut into it. Two copper washers (20,20') are positioned either side of the tongue and a short copper sleeve (28) fits inside the rim of the hole and connects the two washers electrically. The assembly is bolted tightly together, compressing the copper contact to be connected against one of the washers. The force of the tightened bolt encrusts the aluminium with deformed copper and the sleeve is crushed into good mechanical and electrical contact with the washers. The grooves in the aluminium also help to stabilise a protective film of varnish which can be applied to the assembly.
