Abstract

Screw cap closure features an oblique annular internal rib to bear down on the top of the mouth of the container to form a positive seal as the cap is screwed down tight. Eliminates the need for a conventional separate elastomeric annular seal, is esp. claimed for caps moulded of polypropylene or high density polyethylene. Pref. a vertical annular rib with a tapered outer face is located just within the oblique rib, to automatically centre the internal face of the mouth of the container. Pref. the outer face of the oblique rib is angled at about 30 degrees to the axis of the cap, and its inner face at 45 degrees. These inclined surfaces do not appear to intersect but to be joined by a narrow crest parallel to the cap axis.
