Abstract

The capacitor is in the form of co-axial cylindrical tubes. The dielectric is a ceramic tube (1). A static cap (2) is fixed to the lower part of the dielectric and forms one electrode. A threaded metal cylinder (10) has a diameter which is slightly less (0.4mm) than the inner diameter of the dielectric tube. It can be displaced axially by turning the slotted head (11) with a screwdriver. A threaded metal collar (4) has a recessed cylindrical section (5) which fits tightly around the head of the ceramic tube. The lower end of the metal cylinder has a section of smaller dia. (12) which has a ceramic sleeve fixed to it. The inner surface of the sleeve is metallised. When the metal cylinder is screwed completely down the metallised ceramic sleeve is adajcent to the fixed electrode.
