Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an insulator for overhead line.
In current practice, the installation of overhead line conductors comprises the following phases: assembly of pulleys for drawing the line, drawing the line conductors, connection, tension, fixing and blocking. We must therefore first mount on the posts of the separate pulleys and these pulleys must be removed after fixing the line. The line mounting pulleys are relatively expensive in themselves and their removal from the posts is laborious in the sense that the pulleys cannot be dropped from the posts without being damaged and, on the contrary, the fitter must bring them down to the ground using a cable or take them with him when he comes down from the pole.
The insulator according to the invention comprises, preferably in its base, an additional groove intended to receive and support the conductive wire to be laid, during the drawing operation.
When the insulator according to the invention has an additional groove in which the wire to be pulled is easily placed, the conductive wire can be available in this groove for the duration of the pull so that the pull pulleys become superfluous.
The insulator can be rigidly mounted on the insulator support, in which case the conductive wire slides in the groove, and this can extend only over part of the circumference of the insulator. Such a fixed insulator can have practically any desired shape in its other parts. Since the insulator is frequently formed as a body of revolution, there is on the other hand no difficulty in achieving a groove which extends without interruption over the entire periphery of the insulator, so that the insulator is suitable for being rotatably mounted on the insulator support, which makes it easier to draw the conducting wires of the line, especially on long draw ranges. The rotary mounting of the insulator is preferably carried out so as to allow blocking.

la Fig. 2 représente, en coupe longitudinale et à plus grande échelle, une partie du dispositif de montage suivant la Fig. 1;
The characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear in the course of the description which follows, of embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings and given only by way of nonlimiting examples. In these drawings:
Fig. l shows in partial section an embodiment of the insulator according to the invention, mounted on the insulator support;
Fig. 2 shows, in longitudinal section and on a larger scale, part of the mounting device according to FIG. 1;
Fig. 3 shows a second embodiment of the insulator.
In Fig. l, the insulator is designated by the reference 1. A characteristic of the insulator according to the invention is that it has an additional groove 2 which has a width at least equal to the diameter of the conductive wire. The most favorable position for the groove is in the foot of the insulator, as shown in Fig. 1. The insulator is a body of revolution and the groove 2 surrounds the entire insulator but, as indicated above, this is not necessary in itself, from the point of view of the invention.
The insulator 1 is fixed, by its foot, to a fitting or an insulator support 3 which, in turn, has been fixed to the post 4 of the line. The insulator 1 is screwed onto the thread of an axis 5, which is threaded through a fixing opening 6 provided in the insulator support 3; on this axis, is also screwed a nut 10 which is mounted on the opposite side of the opening 6, relative to the insulator 1, and which, in this way rigidly fixes the axis 5 to the insulator support 3. A ring 7 is placed in the opening 6 and two intermediate washers 8 and 9 are interposed between the ring 7 and the nut 10. The installation and the rotary mounting of the insulator will be described in detail below.
The nut 10 is screwed on the axis 5 to the end of the thread of this axis, after which the intermediate washers 8 and 9 are threaded on this axis. The ring 7 is mounted in the opening 6 of the insulator support 3 and the pin 5 is threaded through the ring 7, from right to left in FIG. 1. The insulator support 3 is fixed to the post 4 in a known manner. which will not be described in more detail here and the insulator 1 is screwed on the axis 5. So that the insulator can be fixed by screwing on the axis 5, a pin or equivalent is threaded into a hole 12 provided in the end of this axis 5 so as to prevent the axis from turning. The length of the thread on the axis 5 and the depth of the threaded hole made in the insulator l are preferably chosen so that the axis 5 meets the bottom of the threaded hole at the same time as the insulator l reaches the ring 7.
This state is shown in FIG. l, on which the insulator 1 is in contact with the ring 7 while the ring 7 is in turn in abutment against the nut 10, with the interposition of the washers 8 and 9. there remains a slot between the insulator 1 and the insulator support 3, so that the insulator can rotate freely in the opening 6, with the axis 5, when the aforementioned pin or similar member has been removed from the hole 12.
When the lead wire has been drawn and the rotation of the insulator is no longer useful, the insulator is blocked relative to the insulator support 3 by turning the nut 10 in the direction which brings it closer to the insulator, so that the latter is attracted and clamped against the insulator support, however gu'-at the same time the ring 7 is crushed. The ring 7 must therefore have a sufficiently thin wall. To facilitate the crushing of the ring 7; one can use, for example, the principle construction shown in FIG. 2. In this Figure, the ring 7 has a terminal flange 14 and notches 15 have been formed in this flange, at appropriate intervals; so that the flange splits at the level of its notches and the tabs which are formed under this effect are pushed outwards when the nut 10 is tightened. A flaring 13 has been provided in the opening 6 to receive the material of the ring. It should be noted that, in Fig. 1, we have not sought to represent the elements in a precise way in dimension; this is how the slot remaining between the insulator 1 and the insulator support 3 has an exaggerated width compared to the length of the ring 7. The reference 11 designates the support member of the end of the axis 5 which is closest to the post 4; this support member reduces the torque exerted on the edges of the opening 6 when the conductive wires are drawn.
The insulator 1a shown in FIG. 3 is not distinguished from the insulator 1 shown in FIG. l only by the shape of the bottom of the throat 2a and by the height of the cheek located on the side of the throat close to the foot. The insulator according to FIG. 3 is more suitable than that of FIG. l to constitute what is called a corner insulator in the case where the opening of the angle is directed towards the post.
The assembly shown above of the insulator on its support has a simple construction, it is inexpensive and has reliable operation. The operating mode would in principle be the same in the absence of the ring 7 and / or in the absence of one or each of the intermediate washers 8 and 9. If the thread of the axis 5 extended to at the far right of Fig. 1, the nut could be screwed on this axis from this right end, in which case, to lock the nut in the position which allows the rotation of the insulator, one could use, for example a cotter pin.
The insulator according to the invention is mounted in a horizontal position in the drawing. For example, an isolator similar to that of FIG. 3, in which the cheeks are relatively high on either side of the groove 2a can also be mounted in an inclined position of approximately 30 * in any direction. If the cheeks in question are made with a profile curved inward towards the inside, the angle of inclination may be even greater, the inclination possibly reaching the vertical position. The line is permanently fixed to the insulator in the usual way, in the terminal groove of the latter.
