Abstract

This is an addn. to 74.43348, which describes the use of scrap rock- or glass- wool. The scrap is mixed with sand, cement and water to form a material which can be cast in a mould, esp. to form building elements. The pref. mixt. contains equal amts. of sand and cement, each of which being equal to one-quarter of the amt. of scrap. The mixt. pref. also contains 1-3 wt.% w.r.t. the wt. of cement, of a setting accelerator. An example is a mouldable mixt. contg. 320 kg scrap rock wool; 80 kg sand, size 0/3; 80 kg cement; 1 kg accelerator; and 5-10 litres water. Vibration may be used to aid casting of the mixt.

Description

The main patent relates to a process which, intended for the recovery of waste rock wool and glass wool, consists in mis-focusing this waste with let cement and with water to give rise to the formation of a pasty product which is poured into a mold and which is subjected to successive or simultaneous operations of vibration and compression, before drying in the oven.

The applications of rock wool and glass wool waste thus recovered are numerous; and this is how the main patent cites the- manufacture of construction elements, such as: agglomerates, panels, plates
The purpose of this addition is to specify a process for the manufacture of such elements in order to obtain elements which combine excellent mechanical properties with their insulating qualities originating from the presence of rock wool or glass wool waste.

According to this process, the rock wool or glass wool waste is combined with sand to form a set of aggregates with which the cement is mixed and stirred in an aqueous medium.

The proportions of waste rock wool or glass wool, sand and cement are not imperative. Products having excellent mechanical properties and good insulating power are however obtained by adopting the composition below
- rock wool waste 400 liters, i.e. 320 kg
- sand 0/3 ................................ 80 kg
- cement ................................... 80 kg
- cement setting accelerator admixture. 1 kg 6
- water ........................... between and 10 liters
Rock wool waste and sand constitute the aggregates whose moisture content determines the amount of water to be used.

After having been mixed and cold stirred in a kneader, the whole forms a homogeneous pasty mixture which is poured into molds determining the shape of the elements to be obtained. In their molds these elements are then subjected to vibration and compression operations which can be successive or simultaneous; and they are finally dried in an oven.
