Abstract

The parent patent describes a mould for moulding cooking and packing food prods. made of rigid, food quality polypropylene by injection moulding or thermo-forming. The mould is closed with food quality, flexible plastic film and placed in a vacuum chamber in order to fix the plastic film in place. The improvement is that to create a vacuum within the mould cavity itself, a suction port is formed in the wall of the mould. The port is fitted with a non-return, outlet valve from the mould cavity. Pref. the valve element is housed in a pocket on the outside of the wall of the mould. The suction port communicates between the pocket and the mould cavity. The valve element is pref. made of elastomeric material. Deformation of the element opens the suction port which is reclosed as the valve element regains its original shape. When a mould is inside the vacuum chamber, a vacuum pressure can be introduced inside the mould cavity by opening of the valve.
