Abstract

The chair has an adjustable backrest which is connected in an articulated manner to the seat part and to which armrests (4) constructed as hollow parts are linked. Provided inside each armrest (4) is a lever arm (6) which is pivotable about a horizontal axis and has catch steps (7, 8, 9, 10) which interact with a catch cam which forms part of an upper coupling piece for two legs (23, 24) arranged in a V-shape. The front leg (23) is mounted on the coupling piece so as to be pivotable about a horizontal axis, while the rear leg (23) is attached rigidly to the coupling piece. The lever arm (6) provided with the row of catch steps has on the side facing away from the horizontal pivot axis a gripping piece (11) which can be actuated from the outside. The catch cam of the coupling piece (20) is fitted with lateral extension arms which engage in closed guide tracks (18) fixed on the armrest (4). The armrests do not need to be pivoted upwards to adjust the backrest.
