Abstract

The filter is one of the type which has a cylindrical, inner screen of perforated sheet material surrounded by a sleeve of filter material. A cylindrical outer screen of perforated sheet material surrounds the filter material. Each end of the element is covered with a cap of which one has an orifice into the inner screen and the other is fully closed. The orifice is connected to the filter outlet pipe, with a leakproof joint between the outlet pipe and the cap. At the fully closed end of the element, the cap is held in place by axial thrust of a screw which passed through a bridge piece fixed to the casing. At the end of the element connected to the outlet pipe, the edge of the orifice is turned inwards to form an annular, concave seating channel for leakproof joint. Pref. the channel is of semi-circular cross-section to accommodate an O-ring. The construction of the filter is simpler and cheaper than when the seal has to be clamped against the element by a plate welded to the discharge pipe. The seal is now clamped directly by the end of the pipe.
