Abstract

The fastener uses a screw-jack (18,19) to displace toothed jaws (21) along inclined tracks, serving to secure built in fittings (31) e.g. electric audio fittings for automobiles. It comprises a straight bar (16) locating a central perpendicular screw (18) secured by a housed nut (18), the ends being symmetrically inclined and grooved to locate slides (21). The bar (16) end grooves may have an inverted 'T' section to locate slide (21) ribs and may incline toward the screw (19) head (40). The external slide faces inc. teeth (14) which increase in size toward the trailing end (24). A fitting (31) is secured with a cover plate (32) of greater size than the wall opening and locates a fastener (16) in each side, the screw (19) being located axially between faces (35,36) and driven through a hole (42) until diverging teeth (14) engage recesses in the sides of the wall opening.

Description

"FIXING DEVICE FOR BUILT-IN APPLIANCES"
The present invention relates to a fixing device for devices to be embedded in an opening. It also relates to a device to be embedded in an opening, said device consisting of a housing and a front plate whose dimensions are greater than that of said opening, and also comprising at least one fixing device according to the 'invention.

 The fixing device according to the invention is intended to equip any device of the "built-in" type, in particular electrical or electronic devices, and in particular audio equipment for motor vehicles.

 Currently, the fixing devices for built-in devices are chosen according to the fixing means which is provided with the facade in which is cut the opening intended to receive said devices. By way of example, said facade can be pierced with tapped holes, in which case the fixing device is constituted by simple screws. However, such devices are completely inoperative when said facade is devoid of any fixing means, as is the case for the facades described in standard DIN 75 500 concerning the openings for audio equipment in motor vehicles.

 The object of the present invention is to remedy this inconvenient. It is based on the idea that one could use mobile fixing parts which would come to bear against the periphery of said opening.

 Indeed, according to the present invention, a fixing device for devices to be embedded in an opening is particularly remarkable in that it comprises a guide, two oblique ends of which constitute with two jaws the elements of two slides, said jaws being each provided a hooking toothing at the periphery of said opening, and in that the spacing of said jaws is adjusted by means of displacement of said guide. Thus, depending on the direction of movement of said guide, the two jaws can be moved apart or brought closer at will, provided that they have been immobilized beforehand in the direction of movement of the guide. When said jaws move away from one of the other, the toothing of each of the jaws bears against the periphery of the opening, thus ensuring a secure fixing and free of exhaust. Conversely, when the jaws approach, said toothing is released from the periphery of said opening, which guarantees the reversibility of the fixing device according to the invention.

 According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, said means for moving said guide consist of a nut secured to the guide and by a screw cooperating with said nut. The displacement of the guide is obtained by translation of the nut along the screw, translation obtained by implementation of said screw after it has been immobilized. On the other hand, it should be noted that the displacement means used, namely a nut and a screw, are very reliable and inexpensive.

 Advantageously, said toothing is carried by a metal blade added in a support piece forming part of each of said jaws. The choice of a metallic material for producing the toothing provides the latter with the rigidity essential to its office of cooperation with the periphery of said opening. On the other hand, other elements of the fixing device according to the invention, such as the support piece of each of the jaws and the guide can be chosen from a less expensive and more legate material, and, in particular, in one embodiment. preferred of the invention, said support piece and said guide are made of plastic.

Finally, it is advantageous to give the teeth a structure such that the device according to the invention can adapt to any form of opening and, in particular, to those described in the standard.
DIN 75 500. This is how it is provided that said toothing, along the side of said blade which is intended for attachment, is formed of two portions, a first portion, in which the toothing consists of notches shallow, followed by a second portion in which the teeth consist of tapered teeth.

 The fixing device according to the invention is intended to equip any built-in device provided that said device is provided with means allowing the integration of said device.

 Indeed, according to the present invention, a device to be built into an opening, said device consisting of a shoemaker and a front plate whose dimensions are greater than those of said opening, and also comprising at least one device for fixing according to the invention, is particularly remarkable in that said fixing device is placed in a housing taken in the useful volume of said housing and in that said built-in device is provided with means of access to said means for moving said guide.

 In the case where the means for moving the guide are constituted by a screw and a nut, provision is made for said housing to have a first wall on which the head of said screw is supported, and a second wall, opposite to said first wall, on which the extremity of said screw is supported. Thus, the screw is immobilized, which allows, when it is implemented, to move the nut and therefore to give the guide a relative movement relative to said jaws.

 On the other hand, in order to satisfy all forms of opening, it is preferable to place said housing near the front plate. In particular, it is possible to choose the housing adjacent to the front plate in the sense that said first wall of the housing is formed by a part of the face of said front plate facing the housing, and in this case, it can be envisaged that said access means consist of a hole drilled in the front plate and opening in the axis of said screw head, the diameter of said hole being less than the diameter of the screw head.

 The description which follows with reference to the appended drawings, given by way of nonlimiting example, will make it clear how the invention is implemented.

 Figure l is a perspective view of a fixing device according to the invention.

 FIG. 2 represents a perspective view of a built-in appliance equipped with two fixing devices identical to the fixing device of FIG. 1.

 Figure 3 shows three side views of a built-in appliance similar to that of Figure 2, for three different forms of opening.

 A fixing device for devices to be embedded in an opening is shown in perspective in Figure i. In accordance with the invention, said fixing device comprises a guide 16, two ends 17 of which, at an angle, constitute the elements of two slides 13 with two jaws 12; in the embodiment of FIG. 1, the male element of the slides 13 is carried by the jaws 12 while the female element of said slides is carried by said guide 16. On the other hand, said jaws 12 are each provided with a teeth 14 for attachment to the periphery of said opening 15. The spacing of said jaws 12 is adjusted using means of displacement of the guide 16, which in the embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 1, are constituted by a nut 18 integral with the guide 16 and by a screw 19 cooperating with said nut 18. As can be seen in Figure 1, the nut 18 is incorporated inside the guide 16 while the screw 19 passes through said guide right through. Thus, when the screw 19 is implemented, after being immobilized, the hole 18 moves along the said screw by driving the guide which, sliding along the slides 13, spreads or brings the said jaws apart by means of the ends 17, provided that the jaws 12 have also been immobilized in the direction of movement of the guide 16. It is therefore possible, at will, to bring the teeth 14 of each of the jaws in abutment against the periphery 15 of the opening or on the contrary to move it aside, in accordance with the reversible nature of the fixing device according to the invention.

 According to the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, said toothing 14 is carried by a metal blade 22 attached to a support piece 21 forming part of each of said jaws 12. Said metal blade 22 guarantees sufficient rigidity for the attachment of the teeth 14 at the periphery 15 of the opening.

Conversely, it is more advantageous, for reasons of weight and cost, to produce the support piece 22 and the guide 16 in plastic material.

 Finally1 as can be seen in Figure 1, said toothing 14, along the side of said blade 22 which is intended for attachment is formed of two portions. A first portion 23 of said toothing is formed by shallow notches, said first portion 23 is followed by a second portion 24 of toothing composed of tapered teeth. This tooth geometry makes it possible to adapt the fixing device of FIG. 1 to any form of opening.

 Figure 2 shows in perspective a device to be embedded in an opening, said device consisting of a shoemaker 31 and a front plate 32 whose dimensions are greater than those of said opening and also comprising two identical fixing devices 33 to the fixing device described in FIG. 1. According to the invention, each of the two fixing devices 33 is placed in a housing 34 taken on the useful volume of said housing 31. According to the embodiment of the invention in FIG. 2, said housing 34 has a first wall 35 on which the head 40 of the screw 19 is supported and a second wall 36, opposite the first wall 35, on which the end 41 of the screw 19 is The screw 19 is thus immobilized in the longitudinal direction, its implementation causes the displacement of the nut 18 and therefore that of the guide 16 of which it is integral. As can be seen in Figure 2, the housing 34 is placed at the front of the case 31, more precisely, the first wall 35 of the housing 34 is formed by a part of the face of the front plate 32 facing the case. The built-in appliance of FIG. 2 is also provided with means of access to the screw 19, which in the embodiment of FIG. 2, consist of a hole 42 drilled in the front plate 32 and opening into the axis of the head 40 of the screw 19, the diameter of said hole 42 being less than the diameter of the head 40 of the screw 19. This configuration is particularly advantageous since it makes it possible to use the fixing devices 33 even if the shoemaker 31 is not accessible from the rear or from the sides.

 FIG. 3 represents three side views of a built-in device provided with a fixing device according to the invention, for three forms of opening specified by standard DIN 75 500.

 FIG. 3a shows that when the opening 15 is extended by plates 50 over a distance at least equal to the distance between the face 35 of the front plate 32 and the first tooth 25, the fixing is carried out by means of the teeth 24 coming into forced contact with said plates 50. In the case of FIG. 3 where the opening 15 is extended by a simple rim 51 over a distance less than the distance between the face 35 of the front plate 32 and the first tooth 25, the attachment is ensured by the notches 23 coming to bear between said flange 51. FIG. 3c is a particular case of FIG. 3b, in which the opening 15 is a simple cutout made in a facade 52.

 Note also in Figure 3 an alternative embodiment of the guide 16 in which said guide has been extended in its central part 53, this so that the screw 19 is guided over a greater distance.

 It should be noted that the invention cannot be limited to the fixing device described, implementing a particular type of slide 13, but it can also be implemented using other known slides such as, for example, a slide with a dovetail section, or any other shape obtained easily and at low cost by molding. On the other hand, it should be understood that, without departing from the scope of the invention as claimed below, one can imagine alternative embodiments of the invention in which, for example, the male element of the slides 13 is carried by the guide 16 while the female element of said slides is carried by the jaws 12.

Claims (8)

CLAIMS:
1. Fixing device for devices to be embedded in an opening (15), characterized in that it comprises a guide (16), two ends (17) of which, at an angle with two jaws (12), constitute the elements of two slides (13 ), said jaws each being provided with a toothing (14) for attachment to the periphery of said opening (15), and in that the spacing of the jaws (12) is adjusted by means of displacement of said guide (16).
2. Fastening device according to claim 1, characterized in that said means for moving said guide (16) consist of a nut (18) integral with the guide and by a screw (19) cooperating with said nut.
3. Fastening device according to one of claims 1 or 2, characterized in that said toothing (14) is carried by a metal blade (22) attached in a support piece (21) forming part of each of said jaws (12 ).
4. Fastening device according to claim 3, characterized in that said support piece (21) and said guide (16) are made of plastic.
5. Fastening device according to one of claims 3 or 4, characterized in that the teeth (14), along the side of said blade (22) which is intended for attachment, is formed of two portions, one first portion, in which the teeth consist of shallow notches (23), followed by a second portion in which the teeth consist of tapered teeth (24).
6. Device to be embedded in an opening, said device consisting of a housing (31) and a front plate (32) whose dimensions are greater than those of said opening (15), and also comprising at least one fixing device (33) according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that said fixing device (33) is placed in a housing (34) taken in the useful volume of said housing (31) and in that said built-in device is provided with means for accessing said means for moving said guide (16).

Built-in appliance according to claim 6, provided with at least one fixing device according to claim 2, characterized in that said housing (34) has a first wall (35) on which the head (40) of said screw (19) is supported, and a second wall (36), opposite said first wall (35), on which the end (41) of said screw is supported.
8. Built-in appliance according to claim 7, characterized in that said first wall (35) of the housing (34) is constituted by a part of the face of said front plate (32) facing the case (31) and in that said access means consist of a hole (42) drilled in the front plate (32) and opening in the axis of said screw head (40), the diameter of said hole (42) being less than the diameter of the screw head (40).
