Abstract

The controller has a housing (17) which contains a diaphragm (1) separating the two water spaces (2,3). The diaphragm is supported by a rigid central disc (29). Water is admitted through an inlet (4) which connects with the lower space (3). Water flow is regulated by a spring loaded piston (8) having a stem (12) fitting in a central passage (5). The space (3) is vented through the orifice (15) to the outlet passage (6). The flow is controlled by an obturation tongue which slides in the housing and is actuated by the diaphragm via a rod (26). This allows pivoting of the tongue for partial obturation and sliding for full closure.

Description

The invention relates to mechanisms with a differential membrane activated by the circulation of water, used for controlling the supply of gas to the burners of appliances of the heating type, baths and instantaneous mixed gas boilers, and all especially devices of the kind in question of the variable power type.

We know that the difference in water pressure acting on the differential membrane is given exclusively by the passage of water through a shutter member whose opening and closing movements are linked to the movements of ascent and descent of the membrane, and that the section of passage of water through the shutter member varies linearly between on the one hand a minimum calibrated value which fixes the minimum flow of water necessary for the ignition of the burner and d 'on the other hand a maximum value which determines the upper limit desired for the water flow, so that the lifting of the differential membrane is a substantially linear function of the water flow through the device.

According to the main patent, the closure member is a pivoting tongue fixed directly to the bottom of the case of the membrane mechanism, which is provided with an orifice calibrated for minimum flow, and the end of which moves from a certain threshold with the differential membrane to gradually clear the water passage orifice up to the upper limit of the flow.

It has been observed, however, that in order to achieve a sufficient flow of water through the closure orifice, for example during high-speed drawing, the degree of opening of the pivoting tab is too low to clear the orifice. enough passage.

According to the invention, the tongue is arranged so as to be able to effect, at the end of the first pivoting movement during the course of the latter, it partially unlaces the water passage orifice, a second translational movement which moves it away from the housing in following the movement of the membrane to fully discover the passage opening.

If a characteristic 2articlire of the invention a first extre.-i é of the tongue is secured to the housing via a retaining pin on which it slides, while the race of its opposite end comes to bear against the membrane whose movement it moves.

The housing of the mechanism shown in Figure 1 consists of an upper shell 17 and a lower shell 18 between which is stretched a differential membrane 1 defining the two water chambers (2) and (3), membrane provided in the center of a stiffening disc 29. A water inlet pipe 4 opens into a small central chamber (19) in communication through the annular orifice (5) with the chamber (3). A water flow regulating piston 8, sliding in an outer jacket 11 is pushed by a call spring 9 in the direction of its closing seat 10 which surrounds the annular orifice 5. The jacket 11 is fixed by screwing inside the chamber well (19); it can be dismantled from below. The regulating piston 8 is extended by a bar 13 which passes through the annular orifice 5 and which is fixed to the central rigid disc secured to the membrane 1. The piston 8 carries a spacer 12 of slightly larger diameter weak than port 5.

The lower chamber (3) communicates with the water outlet conduit 6 through a calibrated orifice 16 provided in the bottom of the housing 18. A small conduit 7 equalizes the pressure between the upper chamber (2) and the conduit 6. The membrane 1 is linked by a ti 22 to the valve 23 for the sazionion of the burners not fe-r - ^ - rt
The rod 22 is thus secured to the bar 3. The valve w es r..airtenu locks against its seat by the spring 24 and closes the gas inlet duct 25.

A pivoting tongue 14 is secured, at one of its ends, to a retaining pin 26 on which it can slide between the bottom of the housing 18 and the head 27 of the pin 26 forming a stop. In addition, the orifice provided on the tongue, crossed by the axis 26, is dimensioned with a certain clearance to allow the latter to pivot without difficulty as illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3.

The other end of the tongue ends in a fork 21 which covers the bar 13 of the piston without friction; The spacing of the two branches of the fork is, however, less than the width of the spacer 12 carried by the piston. The flexible tongue 14 itself carries a profiled valve 28 provided with a small orifice 15 which is superimposed on the calibrated orifice 16, so that in its position shown in FIG. 1, the chamber (3) does not communicate with the outlet duct 6 only by a section equal to that of the small orifice 15.

The operation of this mechanism is as follows
From the rest position shown in FIG. 1, the opening of a drawing-off valve causes a weak current of water towards the conduit 6 through the only small orifice 15. The well-known depression which is established in the chamber (2) therefore initiates the lifting of the membrane 1 and parlà -the partial opening of the valve 23 against the spring 24, that is to say that the gas is therefore admitted to the burner at low flow rate. During this first opening time illustrated in FIG. 2, the spacer 12 of the shutter piston 8, which followed the movement of the membrane, and which therefore acted on the fork 21 of the tongue 14, caused the pivoting of the latter around the retaining axis 26. The profiled valve 28 has partially released the orifice 16 thus completing the minimum water passage section provided by the small orifice 15. The end 21 of the tongue is in support on the disc 29 of the membrane.

From this fraction of the total lift stroke of the regulating piston 8, the increase in the drawing rate leads to the lifting of the piston 8, the spacer 12 is in abutment against the tongue, the end 21 of which is itself in abutment against the disc 29 e of the membrane. The piston 8 drives the tongue 14 in its upward movement, -in a translational movement-, due to the free play of its orifice on the retaining pin 26; this movement is limited by the head 27 and corresponds to the leveeXmaximum of the membrane 1 in the case. The profiled valve 28 then completely cleared the orifice 16, and the water pressure drop is given by the section of this orifice 16.
