Abstract

The sheet forms an impermeable envelope, being particularly for use as a burial shroud. It is however designed to deteriorate progressively in the ground etc. so as to allow natural decomposition to take place. The shroud is formed by a permeable support impregnated with a self-destructive sealing medium, e.g. a collagen based substance. The support can typically be a fibre cloth, some at least of the fibres being of natural origin, typical proportions being 70% cellulose and 30% acrylic, or it can be of paper.

Description

The present invention closes with the sheets suitable for forming liquid-tight envelopes, but for gradually degrading thereafter within the medium in which they have been placed with their contents, so as to fully expose the latter to the action of this medium. A typical example of application of such sheets is the production of shrouds or burial covers which must ensure sealing around the body for a sufficient time, then degrade over time so that the body can undergo the natural phenomena of decomposition. .But the invention is not limited to this particular field and can be used in all cases posing similar problems, in particular when it is desired to dispose of organic waste (household waste, plant debris, etc.). ).

The invention aims to solve this problem in a particularly simple, reliable and inexpensive manner.

Conformément à l'invention l'on établit la feuille à l'aide d'un support non étanche qu'on enduit ou imprègne d'un agent d'étanchéité auto-destructible, notamment bio-degradable.  In accordance with the invention, the sheet is established using a non-waterproof support which is coated or impregnated with a self-destructing sealing agent, in particular bio-degradable.

It is understood that under these conditions the sheet is initially waterproof and can more particularly serve in particular as a cover around a body to be buried by preventing any outflow of liquid (the gases generally being able to escape through suitably disposed filters). Then over time the sealant is destroyed and the support no longer forms a partition opposing normal decomposition of the body.

The support is preferably established using non-woven textile fibers arranged in the form of a sheet which the coating or impregnation with the sealing agent transforms into a continuous sheet.

This arrangement has the advantage that when this agent is destroyed, the support itself disintegrates and disappears more or less completely. The fibers used can be of any kind, natural or synthetic, it being noted that the former are often biodegradable, which constitutes an advantage for the desired result.

It is also advantageous to use mixtures of the two kinds of fibers, for example 70% of cellulose fibers and 30% of acrylic fibers.

As a variant, the support can be produced using paper, preferably porous paper capable of better absorbing the sealing agent. It is known that such papers degrade quite easily in the soil and under the effect of humidity, so that again the support disappears after destruction of the sealing agent which protected it.

In accordance with another characteristic of the invention, collagen is used as a sealing agent and the support impregnated with such a agent is subjected to a tanning operation so as to harden the agent and slow down its process of self-destruction or bio-degradation in contact with the ground. The collagen thus tanned ensures good resistance to the sheet in terms of strength and non-deformability. In anticipation of the need to fold the sheet thus obtained to line the walls of a coffin, for example, without causing cracks or cracking detrimental to sealing, advantageously a sufficient quantity of a suitable plasticizer is mixed with collagen, for example such as ammonium sulforicinate. Tests have demonstrated that the collagens thus treated have qualities of flexibility and solidity which facilitate them. , at the same time as they make it possible more particularly to produce the support using sheets of fibers without the sheet finally obtained proving excessively tearable.

Before impregnation or coating with collagen, it is possible to carry out a kind of pre-sizing using an agent such as polyvinyl alcohol, which assembles the fibers without, however, waterproofing them as a whole.

However one proceeds, one obtains finally a perfectly waterproof flexible sheet, which lends itself well to the aforementioned applications, in particular for enveloping the bodies to be buried, then which self-destructs then in the ground by allowing the natural decomposition of its content.

It should moreover be understood that the above description has been given only by way of example and that it in no way limits the field of the invention from which one would not depart by replacing the execution details described by all other equivalents.
