Abstract

The object of the invention is to reduce the cost for the metered addition of water to fuel-air mixtures of four-stroke spark ignition engines and to increase the functional reliability of the metering. A metering device is to be created for the metered addition of water to fuel-air mixtures regardless of their quantity, which ensures an approximately constant quantity of water at minimal cost and a high reliability. According to the invention this is achieved by arranging a capillary tube, slanted in the direction of flow, downstream of the throttle valve of the carburettor, at right angles to the direction of flow, the said capillary tube being connected both to a capillary tube as flow limiter as part of the feed line to the water storage vessel and to a capillary tube as equalising line, which ends directly upstream of the throttle valve in the wall of the intake line. The invention can be used in all four-stroke spark ignition engines which are operated with external mixture formation.

Description

The invention relates to a device for metering water in fuel-air mixtures of four-stroke petrol engines.

It is well known that, to improve the efficiency of the fuel used in petrol engines, a small amount of water vapor or water can be added to the fuel-air mixture. This addition takes place by means of devices which represent an additional expense.

Thus, a device is known which consists of a spray tube, a nozzle and a humidification body over which the fuel-air mixture is passed (Document ignited
OS 843 100). It is also known to supply distilled water by means of a nozzle, the cross section of which is modified by means of a control device as a function of the speed of rotation of the motor by means of a needle arranged in the nozzle (German document
OS 2 830 135) .A device is also known in which water is supplied to the fuel-air mixture via a short capillary tube. The water is here dosed from a pressurized container, in an appropriate manner, by means of a mechanical adjustment device (German document OS 2 622 872
It is also known to use, for dosing combustible liquids or water in fuel-air mixtures, suitable gear pumps (German document OS 2 443 166
All known devices have this drawback which requires a significant expenditure in additional adjustment elements. In addition, the use of nozzles having such small cross-sections has a detrimental effect on operational safety.

The object of the invention is to lower the cost of metering water in the fuel-air mixtures of four-stroke engines and to increase the operational safety of the metering.

The invention therefore proposes to provide a metering device intended to supply water in carburan air mixtures which ensures the metering of an approximately constant quantity of water independently of the quantity of fuel-air mixture which is present, with minimum expense and high reliability.

To this end, the invention proposes that behind the throttle valve of the carburetor, there is at right angles to the direction of the current, a capillary tube beveled in the direction of the current, this tube being connected to a water tank. by a supply line and a compensation line, which ends in the partition, immediately in front of the carburetor throttle.

The invention will be better understood after the description below of an exemplary embodiment of the invention.

In a carburetor which supplies a four-stroke petrol engine with the necessary fuel-air mixture, there is a capillary tube in the center of the suction intake pipe, at a distance of 10 mm behind the throttle axis. the inside diameter is about 0.9 mm. This capillary tube is beveled at its tip in the direction of flow. This capillary tube is placed in communication, by means of an I-piece, with the supply pipe for a water tank and with a compensation pipe, the end of which ends in front of the butterfly, in the pipe d 'admission. The end of the compensation line is located at a distance of approximately 20 mm from the throttle axis. The connection between the I-piece and the water tank is also made by means of a capillary tube. The internal diameter of the latter also amounts to approximately 0.9 mm. The length is chosen so that the metered quantity supplied is approximately 0.5 l / h.
