Abstract

There is a chamber in which the treatment takes place and a linear, pref. horizontal conveyor from which the sausages are suspended by flexible attachments to be carried through the chamber. As a sausage is conveyed through the chamber it is suspended between at least one pair of brushes rotating in opposite directions on axes parallel to the direction of travel of the conveyor. At the same time the conveyor is alternately raised and lowered w.r.t. the brushes. Pref. a fluid treatment agent, e.g. a powder is poured over the sausages as they pass between the brushes. Surplus powder falls into a collecting tank in the base of the chamber to be recycled back up for repouring over the sausages. The fluid treatment agent is pref. a flour. Recycling is pref. by means of a series of conveyor screws. Used for powdering the surfaces of sausages with cereal flour, powdered rice etc. The powder is applied evenly over the whole sausage surface, deposits being brushed out of any crevices or wrinkles. The new machine is simpler and less costly than prior art machines. Less powder is wasted and atmos. dust problems reduced. Output is three times that of manual operation.
