Abstract

The spiked angle strip is used to fix the top edge of a fabric wall covering. It is of inelastic but deformable material, such as electro-plated sheet steel. Spikes (9) are provided in the leg (3), formed by the cutting and folding of triangular flaps, and fix the strip to a wall-mounted timber batten (2). A bottom row of flap windows (10) defines an angle (A), also aiding the folding in two of the strip about the angle. The wall covering is secured by returning its top edge to be sandwiched between the two legs of the folded strip, and outer leg (4) may also have spikes (11) which traverse the leg windows (15) to penetrate the batten (2).

Description

The present invention relates to a device for fixing a wall hanging.

Usually, the fixing of a fabric to a wall such as a wall is carried out by nailing or stapling. However, it is necessary that the fabric web is properly stretched to avoid wrinkles. For this purpose, the installer must first fix one of the edges of the strip and then fix the opposite edge while exerting tension on it.

This last operation is often difficult to perform.

 Tissue fixation requires a very large amount of staples and spikes close together. It is necessary to hide the nails or staples by bringing rods or stripes that are fixed by means of spikes. It is also possible to hide the nails or staples by folding the fabric around a cardboard support (English method). However, this is a relatively long operation.

 To facilitate the laying of fabric on a wall, various profiles have been proposed, one part of which is fixed to the wall and the other of which holds the edge of the strip.

More specifically, there is commercially a profile substantially affecting the shape of an L, easily deformable but non-elastic material whose first wing is intended to be made integral with the wall and whose second wing capable of being folded against the first is provided, on its face facing this first wing, hooking means for the edge of the web.

 The first wing of the profile is fixed to the wall by stapling, a succession of slots for the passage of the branches of the staples being provided for this purpose on the first wing.

However, fixing the profile to the wall by stapling is not always easy or even possible, for example in the case where it is a question of fixing fabric on concrete walls.

 We can hardly consider gluing the profile to the wall either, because the metal does not stick well.

 To remedy this drawback, a device has been proposed which facilitates the laying of the fabric and which can be joined to the wall by gluing.

Such a device comprises a profile substantially affecting the shape of an L, made of easily deformable but non-elastic material, the first wing of which is intended to be made integral with the wall and the second wing of which is capable of being folded back against the first, is provided on its face directed towards this first wing with attachment means for the edge of the web.

 The first wing of the profile has, on its face opposite to the second wing, a series of fixing pins. The profile is joined to a strip of wood or similar material by penetration of the fixing pins in said strip, in such a way that it extends, in width, from the angle of the profile.

Thanks to the wooden strip, it is possible to effectively glue the device to the wall by coating with adhesive the free face of this strip and the corresponding part of this wall.

The second wing of the profile is provided with pins which serve to hang the edges of the strip, the pins face corresponding perforations made in the first wing of the profile. When the second wing is folded over the first, the tips of these pins are received in the corresponding perforations and penetrate into the wooden rod.

 Advantageously, the first wing of the profile has on its face opposite to the second wing and in the vicinity of its junction with the latter a second series of attachment pins obtained by cutting and deformation of the profile, a part of the cut areas coinciding with the junction line of the two wings.

Such a device was described in utility certificate no. 77 17733 taken by the plaintiff on June 9, 1977.

The present invention proposes to make a number of improvements to this device.

According to a first characteristic of the invention, the second wing of the profile intended to be folded against the first wing has from place to place grooves. These are evenly distributed along the length of the wing. They may extend over the entire width of the wing or over only part of this width.

 The presence of these cuts made over the entire length of the wing facilitates the folding of the second wing on the first. This folding is done on small wing lengths which correspond to the distance separating two cuts. This produces a gradual folding of the second wing against the first.

 According to a second characteristic of the invention, the free edge of the wing of the profile which is folded over the wing secured to the wall, is covered by a profile made of an elastically deformable material, for example plastic.

 This profile advantageously has a U-shaped section, the free edge of the wing being inserted between the branches of the U.

This plastic profile prevents metal from waving when the profile is folded.

 The existence of this profile has the other advantage of avoiding the fabric to cut on the free edge of the wing.

According to a third characteristic of the invention, the fixing pins located on the first wing of the profile near the junction line of the two wings are obtained by V-shaped cutting, one of the branches of the V coinciding with the junction line of the two wings and by lateral straightening outwards relative to the right angle of the profile.

 This removes material at the junction line of the two wings, which facilitates the folding of the second wing against the first.

According to a fourth characteristic of the invention, the perforations which are located on the first wing of the profile and in which are housed the points of the pins serving as means of attachment to the fabric when the second wing is folded over the first wing, have an oblong shape. This shape given to the perforations allows the point of the pins to be able to easily pass through these perforations during the folding of the profile whatever the inclination of these pins and thus to penetrate into the wooden strip.

According to a fifth characteristic of the invention, the free edge of the first wing projects beyond the free edge of the wooden strip.

 This feature allows, when fixing the device to the wall, to apply the free edge of the first wing against the ceiling or against the plinth, without being bothered by the agglomerates of dry paint or plaster found in the angles formed by walls and ceiling or walls and baseboards.

These agglomerates of dry paint or plaster are housed in the space delimited by the projecting part of the wing and the free edge of the strip.

The invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows, referring to the attached drawings.

 Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device according to the invention showing in particular the cuts made on the wing of the profile intended to be folded down.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device according to the invention showing in particular the plastic profile covering ie free edge of the wing intended to be folded down.

Figure 6 shows how the pins which serve as means of attachment to the fabric, are received in the perforations during the folding of the profile.

Figures 7 and 8 are schematic sections of the device during folding and after folding.

 We find in Figure 1 some of the elements of the device already known and described in the utility certificate No. 77 17733.

 The device is made up of a profile designated by 1, advantageously made of electro-galvanized sheet metal, and a wooden rod designated by 2.

The profile has the shape of an L comprising a first wing 3 and a second wing 4 joined along a junction line 5.

Llaile 3 has two series of pins 7 and 8 which are used to fix the profile 1 to the wooden rod 2. The series of pins 8 is located in the vicinity of the junction line 5 of the two wings These pins create in the wing 3 of the profile of the openings 9 and 10.

 The wing 4 of the profile also has on its face located inside the profile a series of pins 11 which serve to fix the edge of the fabric to be stretched.

 According to the invention, the wing 4 comprises grooves 12 regularly distributed over the length of the wing. In FIG. 1, there are shown grooves 12 which extend over only part of the width of the wing 4.

For example, for a profile with a length of 1.20 m and whose wings have a width of 2 cm, a grooving is practiced every 6 cm. about.

 The utility of these cutouts is to facilitate the folding of the wing 4 against the wing 3.

 Thanks to the cutouts made on the wing to be folded down, the profile is folded back gradually and without having to exert significant force on the wing to be folded down.

 According to another characteristic of the device according to the invention, the free edge of the wing 4 is covered with a plastic profile 14 (Figure 2).

 This profile, which has a U-shaped section, engaged on the free edge of the wing 4, makes it possible to avoid the undulation of this wing when the profile is folded.

In addition, the presence of this plastic profile prevents the fabric when it is stretched from being cut on the free edge of the wing 4.

According to yet another characteristic of the device according to the invention, the pins 8 located on the wing 3 near the junction line 5 of the two wings are obtained by V-shaped cutting of the profile,
One of the branches of the V coinciding with the junction line 5 of the two wings and by straightening on the side of the cut-out part 8 towards the outside with respect to the right angle of the profile.

 The fact of making the pins 8 by lateral straightening of the V-cut part, as shown in FIG. 4, makes it possible to remove material at the level of the fold line 5, which has the effect of subsequently facilitating folding back of the profile.

The pins 11 located on the wing 4 which serve as hooking means for the fabric, face perforations 15 formed on the wing 3 in which the points of the pins are housed when the wing 4 is folded over the wing 3.

According to the invention, these perforations 15 have an oblong shape, which allows the tip of the pins 11, during the folding of the wing 4 on the wing 3, to easily pass through these perforations whatever the inclination of the pins and entering the wooden strip 2, as illustrated in Figure 6.

Another important characteristic of the device conforming to the invention lies in the fact that the free edge of the wing 3 projects beyond the free edge of the strip 2.

Thanks to this arrangement, it is possible to apply the free edge of wing 3 against the ceiling without being hindered by agglomerates of dry paint or plaster which may be in the angles made by the walls with the ceiling.

 There is shown in Figures 7 and 8 schematic sections of the device mounted at the junction line of a wall and a ceiling, respectively during folding and folded.

 As can be seen in these figures, the free edge 16 of the wing 3 is applied against the ceiling. Agglomerates of dry paint such as 17 which are in the corner of the ceiling and the wall are housed in the space delimited by the projecting part 18 of the wing 3 and the free edge 19 of the wooden strip 2.

In the same way, at the bottom of the wall, the free edge of wing 3 is applied against the plinth. The agglomerates of dry paint which can be found in the angle formed by the wall and the plinth, are housed in the space delimited by the projecting part of the wing and the free edge of the strip.

 The device according to the invention is used as described in utility certificate No. 77 17733.

 Firstly, the metal section fitted with its wooden strip is fixed at the junction between the wall and the ceiling by applying the free edge of the joined wing ~ to its strip against the ceiling. These sections are generally 1m20 long and are placed one after the other over the entire length of the wall on which the fabric is to be stretched. These elements can be easily cut using a saw to the desired length. Before fixing the device to the wall, place the plastic profile whose length is adjusted to that of the metal profile on the free edge of the wing to be folded down.

 In the same way, a second device is fixed, the orientation of which is naturally reversed with respect to the device fixed to the upper part of the wall, at the level of the junction line between the wall and the plinth, by applying the free edge of the wing joined to the wooden strip against the plinth.

The fixing of the device on the wall is most often carried out by gluing. For this purpose, a suitable adhesive, for example a neoprene adhesive, is coated on the face of the strip opposite to the profile and the corresponding part of the wall.

 It is also possible to staple or nail by penetrating staples or nails, either in the projecting part 6 of the strip 2, or in the cutouts 7.

 The two devices being fixed to the wall, one of the free edges of the strip 20 is placed in the corner of the profile situated at the junction line of the wall and the ceiling and the studs 11 are made to penetrate into the fabric. The wing 4 is then folded back over the wing 3 (FIGS. 7 and 8), the point of the pins 11 thus penetrating through the perforations 15 in the rod 2.

 Once the wing 4 has been folded down, the free edge of the strip 20 and the fixing device conforming to the invention are completely concealed by the strip, as shown in FIG. 8.

 Then stretch the fabric on the wall and hang the end of the strip opposite to that which is fixed to the device placed at the top of the wall, in the pins of the device placed at the bottom of the wall.

 Then fold the wing 4 of the profile against the wing 3, which allows to obtain a perfect tension of the fabric and to completely hide the free edge of the strip and the fixing device.

 The invention having now been exposed and its interest justified in a detailed example, the plaintiff reserves exclusivity for the entire duration of the patent without limitation other than that of the claims below.
