Abstract

The electricity generating system using wave power includes an installation attached to the sea bed. The unit comprises two parallel large channels in a direction parallel to that in which the waves travel. On the outer sides of the channel there are valve flaps opening inwards on one side and opening outwards on the other side. As water moves past the channels, some water flows in through the inwards opening valves, and out through the outward opening valves. The resulting flow of water is directed through a turbo-generator (3) to produce electric power. Power is taken away from the generator via a cable (5) which may be connected to navigation lights.

Description

The present invention relates to means for capturing the energy of waves to transform it into usable electrical energy, for example.

The means known hitherto are installed on the surface of the sea and therefore have many disadvantages such as: poor resistance to storms, hampered boat traffic, deterioration of sites ...

The device according to the invention makes it possible to avoid these troubles because it is completely submerged,
The device which is the subject of the invention essentially comprises two pipes which, in the case of a stationary use, are anchored to the bottom of the sea. These pipes form an angle with the crest line of the waves from which one wishes to collect the 'l'énergie0 The interior of each pipe communicates with the outside by one or more lines of valves whose opening directions are reversed from one pipe to another. On the other hand, a conduit joins these two pipes and the process obtained is as follows: the valve (s) of a pipe, located plumb with a wave droppings; tend to open due to increased static pressure; on the other hand, the valves of the other pipe, located plumb with a hollow of wavez also tend to open thanks to the opposite effect. The pressure difference created between these two pipes means that a current of water is established. If the length of the pipes means that they extend from one wave to the next, this current is regularized and it suffices to install on the conduit connecting the two pipes a turbo electric group. In the case where only the wave destruction effect is sought, the device can only comprise one pipe provided with both valves opening in one direction and valves opening in the other.

Figures I and 2 illustrate by way of example an embodiment of the device supports the present invention.

As shown in a schematic panel, the device comprises the pipes I and 2 as well as a turbo electric group 3, the assembly being immobilized by anchors 4. A cable 5 conducts the electric current produced to the coast . The water flow goes from line 1 to line 2 thanks to the valves 6 which open to the passage of the wave crest 7 and to the valves 8 which open to the passage of the wave bottom 9. The arrow 10 indicates the direction of displacement of the waves and the arrow It the direction of the current of water through the device.

The device, object of the invention, can be used to produce electrical energy along the coasts where the waves and swells are particularly strong and frequent.

It can also be used only for the purpose of protecting places where the presence of strong waves is harmful, such as a port, lighthouse cete lined with roads or dwellings. 8.

This device can also be used on board a ship to obtain the aforementioned results.
