Abstract

The pneumatic counter records both the number of heavy vehicles passing and the number of axles of these vehicles. A pneumatic tube is laid across the road and when a vehicle passes, the pressure from the tube (1) deflects the membrane (8), which in turn deflects the thin spring (9) connected to an external electricity supply (10). If the vehicle is heavy enough the deflection of the spring (9) is sufficient to make contact with one or both of the adjustable contacts (13,16), depending on the setting of the contact adjusting screws (15,18). If contact is made a pulse is passed to a counter connected to each of the terminals. The threshold of vehicle weight is set by adjustment of the screws.
