Abstract

The illuminated sign comprises a thick panel of transparent plastic material, its surface being engraved with publicity matter. This panel is suspended from an overhead fluorescent light unit, the light shining onto one edge. The edge is bevelled and the light is transmitted through the thickness of the panel. Coloured fluorescent tubes can be used, together with a strip of coloured material picked up by the light to enhance the effect. Additional reflective power is provided by using dichloromethane to polish the surface of the engraved areas and improve light reception.
