Abstract

Sheet packaging materials having several individual recesses are made from twin layers of flat cardboard and thermoplastic film, where those parts of the card layer corresponding to the recess mouths are displaced, by punching, to form an internal or external lining to the base of the pocket formed in the film to make a recess. Esp. suitable for packaging groups of small items, such as pills, which may be used independently and require individual labelling and to be waterproof. The card can be pre-printed while flat and weakened by partial cutting or perforation along zones corresponding to the cavity borders of the thermoforming mould. The card may be laid over or under the plastic film and reformed simultaneously or in a two-stage operation. Suitable for making packs with flat or concave bases. Maximises the space available for printed information without exceeding the necessary projected area of card or film. The cavity mould tool has a corresponding tool with punches for forcing the card panels into the cavitites: the punches may be heated.
