Abstract

The metal plate (10) is fixed to rocks to form an attachment point for a climber's rope. The plate is made from a metal sheet and is U-shaped with a flat base (12) and two lateral wings (14,16) at right angles. The base has a central vertical groove (30) in which a screw with a hexagonal head (32) for fixing to the rock, can move between two positions. In one it is held between the top of the lateral wings (18,20) and in the other it is independent of them and the plate is free to move. A spring loaded piston (40) assembly is mounted in transverse to holes in the wings. This can be moved between operative and inoperative positions to retain or release the rope.
