Abstract

The rig deploys water jets and compressed air over a relatively long length. Two vertical bores are made at definite horizontal centres to locate two vertical 'H' section guides. The rig is then moved down the guides by rams, comprising two vertical sleeves (2) connected by horizontal straps (3,4). The sleeves are fed (19) water under pressure and are connected to a compressed air feed (20) by a perforated (18) tubular top rail (5), inc. a vertical down jet (15), a lateral inward facing jet (13), and a lateral feed (10) to a jet (11) at the opposite third point. The descent, accompanied by longitudinal oscillation, effects the excavation, the feeds (19) inject cement grout during the ascent or recovery phase.
