Abstract

The system uses an electro-optical sensor (17) attached to each carriage (2), detecting markings designating the respective position of the carriage (2). The signals from the sensors (17) are supplied to a coder, with several current and signal rails (20) attached to the guide rail (1) for each carriage (2), for supplying the operating current for the sensor (17) and for transferring the signals to the coder. The position markings are provided along a metal ban (9) with a limited expansion coefficient, which fits into an elongate groove (12) extending along the rail (1) and clamped in place by an elastic element (15).
