Abstract

A bench for checking long tape measures allows the tape to be compared with a standard which is maintained under tension to ensure perfect positioning. This allows the bench to be used by any persons. A tape measure being checked is engaged in an opening in a shoe assembly (7) and is locked by a screw (35). The other end of the tape is firmly engaged in an intermediate block (37) close to the casing (41) for the tape. Nylon (R.T.M.) plates prevent damage when it is locked by a screw (39). This assembly is attached to a cable (40) under tension by a weight around a pulley (42). The standard tape (M) is located alongside the tape being checked and in tensioned by a weight attached to a cable (8) around a pulley (10).
