Abstract

A device, principally intended as an adaptor for universal testing machines enables tensile impulse tests to be performed by such machines on textile specimens and the like. The device utilizes compression springs (17, 18) which are precompressed, latched then released to displace a movable crosshead (10) from a static crosshead (11). Specimen grips (28, 29) on each crosshead are detachable for interchange and ease of mounting the specimen. Pretensioning is provided by screw adjustment of the specimen grips. Piezoelectric transducers (51) give a measure of specimen tension at each end thereof for assessment of shock wave effects.
