Abstract
A rope tension measuring device incorporating a rotatable pulley wheel (110) over which the rope (52), e.g. in a rope-hauled transport system, is guided by two guide pulleys (105, 106) to give a rope lap angle of from six to twelve degrees. The wheel (110) is disposed on a pivotal mounting (108) which is supported by a load-sensitive small displacement dynamometer (113) which senses the load on the tope (52). The dynamometer (113) is connected to a control system (115) which is actuable to disconnect the rope drive upon attainment of a predetermined tope tension indicated by the dynamometer through the control system. A rope lap angle indicator 102 is provided. The device may operate warning means, drive cutouts or control systems. The monitor tester a two speed gearbox, (not shown) enables a rope over and/or under speed detector operating a cut-out to be tested by the running at above or below normal speed of a generator of the tester, driven by the element under test, to produce a speed related signal. The generator may be driven by the pulley wheel (110) of the tension measurer. <IMAGE>
