Abstract

The prefabricated concrete half beam (2) is strong enough to be self supporting and when braced carries the construction work above it. The beam carries hollow lightweight spacers (1) so that together they form a bottom shutter for the concrete (3) which is cast in situ. This forms the top surface of the floor deck while reinforcing stirrups are placed in the web or rib of the concrete. The half beam has a number of longitudinal reinforcing bars and the canal at its top surface means that there is not a weak horizontal joint at its top surface susceptible to horizontal forces.
