Abstract
The winding is fabricated from a continuous wire having a circular cross-section. The wire is first wound into a series of interconnected helices (6-8) each having a rectangular cross-section. Alternate helices are wound in opposite senses. The wire turns are then flattened so that the round wire becomes flat and the result is curved around the inside of the motors stator such that the axes of the helices are radial. The wire is compressed in a jig comprising central cores fitting inside the helices and hard laminae that fit between the turns. Pressure is then exerted on the stack of laminae to flatten the wire.
