Abstract

The bucket has two side plates (1), a baseplate (2), and a backplate (5), the side plates having curved front extensions (13), and the backplate having a weighted free end (9) to aid its rotation. Forward rotation of the backplate is limited by the beak (10) and stop (11) and its backward rotation is limited by the beak (6) and stop (7). The position of the axis (14) between the bucket arm (4) and the machine shaft (15) is critical and is arranged so that the ratio between it and the line of action of the force (x), and between it and the pivoting axis of the shovel (y) is one half.
