Abstract

The monitor uses a pair of parallel electrode plates (12, 13) attached to one of the vertical sides of the tank (11), the capacitance between them corresp. to the level of liq. within the tank (11). An HF oscillator supplies an AC voltage to one of the electrode plates (12) such that the capacitive current component between them is large w.r.t. the ohmic current component. The other electrode plate (13) is coupled to an amplifier (16) the output of which is connected to a display (20) indicating the level in the tank, via an AC/DC converter (19). The electrode plates (12, 13) are shaped so that the surface of each covered by the rising liq. in the tank (11) is directly proportional to the fluid vol. contained in the tank (11).
