Abstract

The peg is for attaching cable etc. to the sea bed and includes a cylindrical tube (1) on top of which is a reinforced circular collar (2). A removable head (3) is fastened to this collar by bolts (4, 5) gripped by nuts (6, 7) and similar further bolts spaced around the circumference of the collar. Inside the removable head is a hollowed out portion of reduced diameter forming a chamber into which a charge (8) is put. A small hole (9) extends axially through the head to the igniter (10). The igniter seals the charge in and is remotely controlled to fire the charge. This drives the peg (24) down the cylinder, which has previously been evacuated. As a result, the point of the peg becomes embedded in the sea bed. Secondary charges in the point may be used to splay out the end of the peg to improve the acnhorage.
