Abstract

The extrudate is exposed to one or more jets of liq. with min. velocity 100m/s and dia. 0.05-0.5 mm; and the feeding speed of the jet(s) is selected so the surplus liq. causes cooling of the mass. The cutting liq. is pref. a 0.5-4% aq. soln. of the binder employed in the ceramic mass; and the pref. jets have a velocity of 300m/s and a dia. of 0.2 mm. The invention results in high cutting speeds and excellent cut surfaces, where only a small amt. of scrap ceramic is obtd. during cutting, and this scrap is not contaminated so it cna be reclaimed without difficulty.
