Abstract

The flexible shaft coupling transmits rotation whilst providing torsional elasticity and accommodating a degree of non-alignment, utilising a flanged (4) 'W' section coupling sleeve (3) in elastomere. Each flange is cylindrical with a uniformly and sinusoidally undulating bore (6), being fitted on the reciprocally undulating (5) terminal barrel zone of a metal sleeve (1). The metal sleeves (1) are keyed (2) onto the respective ends of the conjunctive shafts (A, B), and obtusely angled 'L' section retaining rings (7) clamp the flanges onto the sleeves (1). The coupling sleeve may be in two pieces which abut on a diametric plane, and the ring may alternatively be of a 'Z' section.
