Abstract

The vehicle attachment applying an ice-melting compound to frozen roads, comprises a sleeve into which controlled quantities of water can be dispensed. The sleeve is in contact with the road, and includes two electrodes near its lower edge. The electrodes, formed of a corrosion-resistant metal, are connected to a resistance measuring bridge. According to the resistance between the electrodes the concn. of ice-melting compound on the road surface can be ascertained. The device enables the rate of application of ice-melting chemical to a frozen road to be measured in order to determine whether the correct dosage is being applied.
