Abstract

The lighter is fitted with a ratchet wheel (1) on the side of the casing. The ratchet is operated by a cam (8) mounted on a stem (7) and fixed to the casing by the bracket (11), which also contains the return spring (9). The stem is depressed when the lid (6) is opened. The ratchet wheel is contained in a casing (4) and is numbered around the edge, the numbers lining up with a dot on the casing and visible when the lid is closed. The wheel also carries information relating to the tar and nicotine properties of cigarettes.
