Abstract

Tapes are made by cutting strips from sheet made from one more layers of pricked chopped fibres. A layer of fibres is prepd. by carding and then pricked by a multipoint tool having plain or barbed pins. The fibre may be laid up like velvet with a looped or cut pile. Opt. the tapes are twisted and the twist is subsequently thermally fixed. The spacing and action of the blades which cut the sheet should be variable opt. also can produce a nonlinear cut. The strips may be subsequently fixed to a carrier tape or sheet by superposition and a further pricking treatment. Used for mfr. of tapes of various widths or shapes, opt. laminated with or incorporating complementary layers or covers of fabric, film, netting. Suitable for mfr. of tapes having a wide variety of textures or multicolour effects, depending on the varieties of chopped fibre used.
