Abstract

Mfr. of plumbing elements in ceramics, which within service have at least one portion used in contact with the fluid to control the flow of the fluid, is described. Specifically the method comprises (a) wet grinding and mixing Al2O3 (92-96 wt. %) with addn. and binders; (b) spray drying to form granules; (c) compacting the granules into moulds to shape the parts; (d) sintering the mouldings at 1300-1500 degrees C for 2h; (e) polishing in two stages, using 2-5 mu diamond powder, until the degree of roughness of mean square value 0.20 mu R A. The plumbing elements are esp. taps used to control the flow of corrosive fluids or hot gases, without being destroyed themselves. They are corrosion resistant, resistant to high temp. and thermal shock. Taps and valves with long service life may be produced.
