Abstract
Mat is moulded contg. mineral fibres impregnated with a binder and the mat is cut transversely into pieces, which are tilted through 90 degrees so they stand on edge and form an endless stackfed through a heat treatment chamber. In the chamber, the stack is exposed to a hot heat transfer medium at 150-170 degrees C., which is blown through the stack for 3-5 minutes. During this period the exothermic polymer condensn. of the binder occurs, thus evolving additional heat in the stack. A cold heat transfer medium is then blown through the stack. The stack is next cut into individual panels, esp. so the longitudinal axes of the fibres are parallel with the thickness of the panels. Chamber pref. has a calibrated exit which controls the cross-section dimensions of the stack.
