Abstract

In the determination of the degree of thermal treatment received by a mass of material during such treatment, (i) a signal representative of the thermal treatment temp. as a function of time is integrated in accordance with the relationship:- where N = number of thermal treatment units; t = duration of thermal treatment (hours), T = temp. of thermal treatment (degree K) and f (T) = relative course of softening or hardening at different temps. while K1 = constant; (ii) the values of (N) during the course of thermal treatment are added and (iii) the degree of thermal treatment received by the mass of material is determined. The signal may be integrated continuously or may be sampled and integrated at selected intervals during the thermal treatment. Enables account to be taken of variations of temp. partic. for annealing so as to decide whether or not a batch has been adequately annealed e.g. for cold rolling.
