Abstract

In a vacuum chamber is an evaporator (I) for a metal, which is e.g. Al, and a second evaporator (II) for a material providing a protective coating on the Al or other metal. Evaporator (II) consists of a conical helical filament with its axis aligned along the length of the reflectors; the two evaporators are coaxial, and are equidistant from the reflectors. Helix of (II) pref. has a variable pitch increasing upwards to the wide end of the cone, the lower part of the helix forming a holder for material. Evaporator (I) is pref. a bifilar coil wound with a third wire and forming a recess in which the Al is located. Used in mass prodn. of reflectors used e.g. in projectors.
