Abstract

A method of measurement value sensing in the detection of predefined dia. and/or curvature values in elongated objects, e.g. of timber involves an optical contactless measurement arrangement scanning the object as it passes on a transport device. A light beam passing the object on both sides is received and the detector signals used to evaluate the dia. along two inclined directions in a number of planes along the object length using a data processor. The method is more accurate than those using reflected light. The beams corresp. to the two measurement directions pass through two stationary conveyor component cut-outs past which the object moves at a fixed angle. The object is raised until at least one of the beams passes between the object and the stationary component.
