Abstract

The gas-tight metal enclosure (10) contains the fixed (32) and moving (30) contacts and their associated connections (50, 48). Evacuating the whole enclosure for maintenance purposes can be avoided if the contacts are enclosed in a separate cylinder (16) having gas tight joints at each extremity where it abuts the sides of the enclosure. Appropriate holes in these sides and means of sealing to the cylinder at earth potential permit both contacts to be removed without disturbing the remainder of the assembly. sliding contacts (42, 44) connect the circuit-breaker contacts to the exterior connections. Two separate inlet valves (58, 62) and pipework (56, 60) are required for the main enclosure and for the contacts cylinder.
