Abstract

The temp. compensated crystal oscillator overcomes problems associated with the spread of component characteristics used in such circuits. The circuit lends itself to mass-prodn. and is based on the use of varactor diodes and a compensating network. The crystal element, pref. quartz (1), is connected via one varactor diode (2) across an orthodox oscillator circuit (3) which has a DC stabilised power source (6) with a thermistor based compensation network (5) operating over a given temp. range. The DC source also supplies a frequency controlled potentiometer (8) and the crystal varactor junction via a fixed resistor (7). A further varactor diode (9) is AC coupled across the first via two capacitors (9") and has a resistor network (12, 13) including a slope characteristic selecting potentiometer (14) connected across it again fed from the DC source.
