Abstract
The conversion system is for asynchronous motors to asynchronous generators esp. for standby use where some form of drive to the generators is available. Conversion is based on the use of two capacitor banks, one, delta connected and one star connected. Both banks may be permanently connected to the phase terminals of the motor or they can be connected separately during start-up and loading. Two relays with interconnected coils are between one phase and neutral. One relay is energised at start-up providing a delay to the second which brings in the load circuit. The star connected capacitors may have parallel resistors discharging them during the delay period of the first relay. A single four pole changeover switch ensures the motor to generator changeover.
